Ector County was founded in 1887 and was created by taking area from Tom Green County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Ector had a population of 166,223 people. This is an increase of 21.26% since the last Census (which gave a population of 137,075 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Ector represented 0.55% of the total population of Texas.
