The location of Evanston has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (the GNIS).<3> While we don't have a date for the founding of Evanston, you might consider that their post office opened in 1889. When the people of Evanston referred to themselves (known as a demonym), they are believed to have used Evanstonian<4> While the community is gone, the present day location for Evanston is 1,050 feet [320 m] above sea level.<5>. Time Zone: The area where Evanston was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time Note: If you travel east from Evanston (for example, toward Spring City), you will leave Central Time and cross into the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT).
