Adding Danville to Our Gazetteer ...

We originally found mention of Danville in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention that we've found for Danville was on a map titled Map of Tennessee (from Rand McNally, 1888).

We also found Danville in the Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
