The community of Memphis is the Seat for Shelby County.

Shelby County was founded in 1819.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Shelby had a population of 937,070 people. This is an increase of 1.02% since the last Census (which gave a population of 927,644 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Shelby represented 14.62% of the total population of Tennessee.
