Time Zone: Clay County lies in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time.

The community of Celina is the Seat for Clay County.

Clay County was founded in 1870. Clay was created by taking area from Jackson and Overton Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Clay had a population of 7,597 people. This is a decrease of 3.36% since the last Census (which gave a population of 7,861 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Clay represented 0.12% of the total population of Tennessee.
