So far, we found very little information about Brownlow. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

Brownlow would have been located within present day Unicoi County<2>.


The location of Brownlow has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<3>


While we don't have a date for the founding of Brownlow, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1882.

While the community is gone, the present day location for Brownlow is 2,850 feet [869 m] above sea level.<4> In other words, the altitude of Brownlow is about ½ mile above sea level.

Time Zone: The area where Brownlow was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time

Adding Brownlow to Our Gazetteer ...

We originally found mention of Brownlow in the GNIS. For more information, see the Referenced GNIS Codes section on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Brownlow was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Brownlow post office opened in 1882.

We also found Brownlow in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
