At the time of the 2010 Census, Bolivar had a population of 5,417 people (or 19.88% of the total population of Hardeman County). This makes Bolivar the county's most populous community.

The population of Bolivar represents 0.09% of the population of Tennessee (which has 6,346,105 people), making it the state's 93rd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 5,417 people, the population of Bolivar decreased 6.64% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 5,802 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Bolivar was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Bolivar post office opened in 1823.

We also found Bolivar in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (Oct. 1846).
