So far, we found very little information about Atkins. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

Atkins would have been located within present day Henderson County<2>.


The location of Atkins has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<3>


While we don't have a date for the founding of Atkins, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1879.

From the 2010 Census (the most recent Census number we have), Atkins had a population of 13,458 people.<4> (see below for details).

While the community is gone, the present day location for Atkins is 510 feet [155 m] above sea level.<5>.

Time Zone: The area where Atkins was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

Atkins would have been located in the (731) area code.

We originally found mention of Atkins in the GNIS. For more information, see the Referenced GNIS Codes section on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Atkins was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Atkins post office opened in 1879.

We also found Atkins on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Tennessee (1888).
