Welcome to Kanigan Village ...

So far, we found very little information about Kanigan Village. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Kanigan Village to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. Kanigan Village was settled circa 1917.

The origin (or the toponymy) of Kanigan Village: A Doukhobor<2> Community, belonging to the Kylemore Colony.

<1>	We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Kanigan Village, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>	The Doukhobors (or Doukhabours) are a Christian sect that were persecuted in the late 1800's by the Russian government and the Russian Orthodox Church. To avoid further persecution, many of the Doukhobors sought refuge in the Canadian Provinces of Alberta, British Columbia and in this case, Saskatchewan.Once in Canada, the Doukhobors continued their communal traditions by forming Colonies, with small villages (such as Kanigan Village) forming within each Colony.
