While we don't have a date for the founding of Monroe, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was in a book dated 1895.

From the  Census Estimates for 2019, Monroe has a population of 156 people<3> (see below for details).

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Monroe had an population of 156 people. This is a decrease of 2.5% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 4.29% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Monroe had a population of 160 people. This makes Monroe the county's 8th most populous community.

The population of Monroe represents 0.02% of the total population of South Dakota (which has 814,180 people), making it the state's 265th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 160 people, the population of Monroe decreased 1.84% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 163 people).
