Welcome to March ...

So far, we found very little information about March. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added March to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of March - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with March, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of March , we believe that it would have been located within present day Charles Mix County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of March, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was in a book dated 1895.

From the 2010 Census (the most recent Census number we have), March had a population of 2,188 people.<3> (see below for details).

Time Zone: The area where March was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

If March still existed, it would have been in the (605) area code.

Communities Also Named March ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are 4 communities that are also named March - they are located in Arkansas, California, Minnesota and Missouri.

Adding March to Our Gazetteer ...

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned March was in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about March, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of South Dakota's counties, including Charles Mix, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>Population counts have been provided by the U.S. Census Bureau. For more detail, please visit our Census Page for March.
