The community of Miller is the Seat for Hand County.

Hand County was founded in 1873 and was created by taking area from Buffalo County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Hand had a population of 3,170 people. This is a decrease of 7.61% since the last Census (which gave a population of 3,431 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Hand represented 0.42% of the total population of South Dakota.

While it makes interesting reading all by itself, it should be of special interest to genealogists and family historians looking for people who were either affected by or directly involved in such tragedies.
