Jasper County was founded in 1912. Jasper was created by taking area from Beaufort and Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Jasper had a population of 23,221 people. This is an increase of 12.3% since the last Census (which gave a population of 20,678 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Jasper represented 0.52% of the total population of South Carolina, making it the state's 40th most populous county (out of 46 counties).
