The community of Laporte is the Seat for Sullivan County.

Sullivan County was founded March 15, 1847 and was created by taking area from Lycoming County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Sullivan had a population of 5,959 people. This is a decrease of 7.3% since the last Census (which gave a population of 6,428 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Sullivan represented 0.05% of the total population of Pennsylvania.
