The community of Chambersburg is the Seat for Franklin County.

Franklin County was founded September 9, 1784 and was created by taking area from Cumberland County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Franklin had a population of 155,522 people. This is an increase of 3.95% since the last Census (which gave a population of 149,618 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Franklin represented 1.18% of the total population of Pennsylvania.
