Butler County was founded March 12, 1800 and was created by taking area from Allegheny County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Butler had a population of 188,313 people. This is an increase of 2.42% since the last Census (which gave a population of 183,862 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Butler represented 1.45% of the total population of Pennsylvania.
