Coos County was founded in 1853. Coos was created by taking area from and Jackson Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Coos had a population of 64,677 people. This is an increase of 2.59% since the last Census (which gave a population of 63,043 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Coos represented 1.65% of the total population of Oregon.
