Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Tahlequah had an population of 16,834 people. This is an increase of 6.86% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 16.43% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Tahlequah had a population of 15,753 people (which is 33.43% of the total population of Cherokee County). This makes Tahlequah the county's most populous community.

The population of Tahlequah represents 0.42% of the total population of Oklahoma (which has 3,751,351 people), making it the state's 33rd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 15,753 people, the population of Tahlequah increased 8.96% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 14,458 people).

We originally found mention of Tahlequah in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Tahlequah was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

X2X - From that list, the Tahlequah post office opened in 1847.
