Welcome to Nicksville ...

So far, we found very little information about Nicksville. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Nicksville to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Nicksville - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Nicksville, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Nicksville , we believe that it would have been located within present day Sequoyah County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Nicksville, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1828.

Time Zone: The area where Nicksville was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

The Area Codes where Nicksville was located: 918 & 539<3>

Adding Nicksville to Our Gazetteer ...

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Nicksville was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>

X2X - From that list, the Nicksville post office opened in 1828.

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Nicksville, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Oklahoma's counties, including Sequoyah, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code. In this case, the 918 code has been Overlayed with the 539 area code. New phone numbers in the Nicksville area will be assigned with one of these codes: 918 or 539. As a result, placing a call in the Nicksville area will require 10-digit dialing (where you enter both the area code and then the phone number).
