Welcome to Mexhoma ...

So far, we found very little information about Mexhoma. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

Mexhoma was located in the Panhandle of Oklahoma.

Mexhoma would have been located within present day Cimarron County<2>.



While we don't have a date for the founding of Mexhoma, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1909.

While the community is gone, the present day location for Mexhoma is 4,820 feet [1,469 m] above sea level.<3> In other words, the elevation of Mexhoma is about 1 mile [or ~1½ km] above sea level.

Time Zone: The area where Mexhoma was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

Note: While Mexhoma is in the Central Time Zone, the area just to the west is in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT).

Adding Mexhoma to Our Gazetteer ...

We originally found mention of Mexhoma in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Mexhoma was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<5>

From that list, the Mexhoma post office opened in 1909.

We also found Mexhoma on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Oklahoma (1911).
