The Commemorative Quarter for Oklahoma

Welcome to Luckey ...

So far, we found very little information about Luckey. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Luckey to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Luckey - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Luckey, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Luckey , we believe that it would have been located within present day Cherokee County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Luckey, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1913.

Time Zone: The area where Luckey was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

The Area Codes where Luckey was located: 918 & 539<3>

Communities Also Named Luckey ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are 2 communities that are also named Luckey - they are located in Alabama and Ohio.

For more information, see our Tidbits & Trivia Page for Luckey.

Adding Luckey to Our Gazetteer ...

We originally found mention of Luckey in the GNIS. For more information, see the Referenced GNIS Codes section on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Luckey was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>

X2X - From that list, the Luckey post office opened in 1913.

We also found Luckey on a map titled George#&160;F. Cram Map (1922).

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Luckey, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Oklahoma's counties, including Cherokee, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code. In this case, the 918 code has been Overlayed with the 539 area code. New phone numbers in the Luckey area will be assigned with one of these codes: 918 or 539. As a result, placing a call in the Luckey area will require 10-digit dialing (where you enter both the area code and then the phone number).
