While we don't have a date for the founding of Hugo, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1901.

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Hugo had an population of 5,069 people. This is a decrease of 4.54% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 8.44% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Hugo had a population of 5,310 people (or 34.92% of the total population of Choctaw County). This makes Hugo the county's most populous community.

The population of Hugo represents 0.14% of the total population of Oklahoma (which has 3,751,351 people), making it the state's 71st most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 5,310 people, the population of Hugo decreased 4.08% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 5,536 people).

We originally found mention of Hugo in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Hugo was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Hugo post office opened in 1901.

We also found Hugo on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Oklahoma (1911).
