Welcome to Whetstone ...

So far, we found very little information about Whetstone. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Whetstone to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Whetstone - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Whetstone, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Whetstone , we believe that it would have been located within present day Crawford County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Whetstone, you might consider that their post office opened in 1833.

Time Zone: The area where Whetstone was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time

If Whetstone still existed, it would have been in the (419) and (567)<3> area codes.

While we believe that this Whetstone is located in Crawford County, we know of another 2 Ohio communities named Whetstone. Those communities are located in the following counties: Franklin and Morrow County.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Whetstone was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>

From that list, the Whetstone post office opened in 1833.
