Footnotes ...
<1> | We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Tigers Valley, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy. |
<2> | If you're interested in how the shape of Ohio's counties, including Harrison, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries. |
<3> | It's a common practice for mapmakers to remove the apostrophe from possessive names. So Tigers Valley may originally have been Tiger's Valley. Sometimes the trailing 's' might be dropped altogether, in which case Tigers Valley might be written as Tiger Valley. For more information, please visit our Genealogy Helper Page for Tigers Valley. |
<4> | When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code. In this case, the 740 code has been Overlayed with the 220 area code. New phone numbers in the Tigers Valley area will be assigned with one of these codes: 740 or 220. As a result, placing a call in the Tigers Valley area will require 10-digit dialing (where you enter both the area code and then the phone number). |
