Welcome to Lucerne ...

So far, we found very little information about Lucerne. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Lucerne to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Lucerne - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Lucerne, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Lucerne , we believe that it would have been located within present day Columbiana County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Lucerne, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1893.

Time Zone: The area where Lucerne was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time

The Area Codes where Lucerne was located: 330 & 234<3>

Communities Also Named Lucerne ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two Ohio communities named Lucerne: This one is located in Columbiana County and the other is located in Knox County.

Beyond Ohio, there are 21 communities that are also named Lucerne - they are located in Arkansas, British Columbia, California (2), Colorado, Indiana, Kansas (2), Louisiana, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Quebec, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington (2), West Virginia and Wyoming.

Adding Lucerne to Our Gazetteer ...

We originally found mention of Lucerne in the GNIS. For more information, see the Referenced GNIS Codes section on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Lucerne was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>

From that list, the Lucerne post office opened in 1893.

We also found Lucerne on a map titled George#&160;F. Cram Map (1901).

For more details, see References and Mentions for Lucerne.

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Lucerne, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Ohio's counties, including Columbiana, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code. In this case, the 330 code has been Overlayed with the 234 area code. New phone numbers in the Lucerne area will be assigned with one of these codes: 330 or 234. As a result, placing a call in the Lucerne area will require 10-digit dialing (where you enter both the area code and then the phone number).
