Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Jones Corners, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Ohio's counties, including Holmes, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>It's a common practice for mapmakers to remove the apostrophe from possessive names. So Jones Corners may originally have been Jone's Corners. Sometimes the trailing 's' might be dropped altogether, in which case Jones Corners might be written as Jone Corners. For more information, please visit our Genealogy Helper Page for Jones Corners.
<4>When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code. In this case, the 330 code has been Overlayed with the 234 area code. New phone numbers in the Jones Corners area will be assigned with one of these codes: 330 or 234. As a result, placing a call in the Jones Corners area will require 10-digit dialing (where you enter both the area code and then the phone number).
