The Commemorative Quarter for Ohio

Welcome to Hoover ...

So far, we found very little information about Hoover. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Hoover to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Hoover - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Hoover, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Hoover , we believe that it would have been located within present day Marion County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Hoover, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1892.

Time Zone: The area where Hoover was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time

The location where Hoover once stood is in the (419) and (567)<3> area codes.

Communities Also Named Hoover ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are 18 communities that are also named Hoover - they are located in Alabama (2), Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Missouri (2), Nebraska, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania (3), South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas (2) and Virginia.

Adding Hoover to Our Gazetteer ...

We originally found mention of Hoover in the GNIS. For more information, see the Referenced GNIS Codes section on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Hoover was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>

From that list, the Hoover post office opened in 1892.

We also found Hoover on a map titled George#&160;F. Cram Map (1901).

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Hoover, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Ohio's counties, including Marion, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>Area code (567) is an overlay for area code (419).
