Welcome to Franklinton ...

So far, we found very little information about Franklinton. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Franklinton to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Franklinton - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Franklinton, please Contact Us.


While we don't have the exact location of Franklinton , we believe that it would have been located within present day Franklin County<2>.

The pronunciation of Franklinton: FRANK-lin-tuhn<3>

While we don't have a date for the founding of Franklinton, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1805.

Time Zone: The area where Franklinton was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are 5 communities that are also named Franklinton - they are located in Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, New York and North Carolina.

Adding Franklinton to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Franklinton was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>

From that list, the Franklinton post office opened in 1805.

We also found Franklinton in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
