The Commemorative Quarter for Ohio

Welcome to Crosby ...

So far, we found very little information about Crosby. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Crosby to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Crosby - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Crosby, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Crosby , we believe that it would have been located within present day Hamilton County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Crosby, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1809.

Time Zone: The area where Crosby was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time

The Area Codes where Crosby was located: 513 & 283<3>

Adding Crosby to Our Gazetteer ...

We originally found mention of Crosby in the GNIS. For more information, see the Referenced GNIS Codes section on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Crosby was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>

X2X - From that list, the Crosby post office opened in 1809.

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Crosby, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Ohio's counties, including Hamilton, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code. In this case, the 513 code has been Overlayed with the 283 area code. New phone numbers in the Crosby area will be assigned with one of these codes: 513 or 283. As a result, placing a call in the Crosby area will require 10-digit dialing (where you enter both the area code and then the phone number).
