Seneca County was founded April 1, 1820 and was created by taking area from Huron County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Seneca had a population of 55,220 people. This is a decrease of 2.69% since the last Census (which gave a population of 56,745 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Seneca represented 0.49% of the total population of Ohio.
