Lucas County was founded June 20, 1835. Lucas was created by taking area from Wood, Sandusky and Huron Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Lucas had a population of 428,348 people. This is a decrease of 2.96% since the last Census (which gave a population of 441,434 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Lucas represented 3.83% of the total population of Ohio.
