Gallia County was founded April 30, 1803. Gallia was created by taking area from Washington and Adams Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Gallia had a population of 29,850 people. This is a decrease of 3.5% since the last Census (which gave a population of 30,934 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Gallia represented 0.27% of the total population of Ohio.
