Ashland County was founded February 24, 1846. Ashland was created by taking area from Wayne, Richland, Huron and Lorain Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Ashland had a population of 53,418 people. This is an increase of 0.53% since the last Census (which gave a population of 53,139 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Ashland represented 0.46% of the total population of Ohio.
