At the time of the 2010 Census, Ithaca had a population of 30,014 people (which is 29.5% of the total population of Tompkins County). This makes Ithaca the county's most populous community.

The population of Ithaca represents 0.15% of the total population of New York (which has 19,378,102 people), making it the state's 73rd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 30,014 people, the population of Ithaca increased 2.48% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 29,287 people).

We originally found mention of Ithaca in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Ithaca was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Ithaca post office opened in 1804.

We also found Ithaca in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (Oct. 1846).
