The community of Cortland is the Seat for Cortland County.

Cortland County was founded in 1808 and was created by taking area from Onondaga County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Cortland had a population of 47,410 people. This is a decrease of 3.9% since the last Census (which gave a population of 49,336 people in 2010).

    • The GenDisasters website specializes in newspaper articles about tragedies and disasters. While it makes interesting reading all by itself, it should be of special interest to genealogists and family historians looking for people who were either affected by or directly involved in such tragedies.
