The Commemorative Quarter for New York

Do you know of Alps ???

When we encounter a name that is new to us, we add it to our Gazetteer - that's the case with Alps.

This entry has been created as a placeholder - we hope to develop more information in the future.

This entry could be in error. It might be that our source had a mis-print, was simply wrong or we made a transcription error while referencing it. We hope to learn more about Alps in the future.

We found mention of Alps as a post office, but can't determine its location - other than being located somewhere in Rensselaer County, New York.

It's common that the post office is named the same as the community in which it's located (although that's not always case). In this case, we can't match this post office to any of the existing communities in our gazetteer.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Alps, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1826.

Communities Also Named Alps ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are 4 communities that are also named Alps - they are located in Georgia, New Mexico (2) and Virginia.

Adding Alps to Our Gazetteer ...

We originally found mention of Alps in the FIPS-55 file.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Alps was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<1>

From that list, the Alps post office opened in 1826.

We also found Alps in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (Oct. 1846).
