The origin (or the toponymy) of Rhyolite: Named after a type of rock called 'Rhyolite'; an igneous rock composed of light colored silicates. While the community is gone, the present day location for Rhyolite is 3,810 feet [1,161 m] above sea level.<3> In other words, the altitude of Rhyolite is about ¾ mile [or ~1¼ km] above sea level.
