Eureka County was founded March 1, 1873 and was created by taking area from LanderCounty.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Eureka had a population of 1,707 people. This is an increase of 3.39% since the last Census (which gave a population of 1,651 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Eureka represented 0.08% of the total population of Nevada, making it the state's 15th most populous county (out of 17 counties).
