Quay County was founded in 1903 and was created by taking area from Guadalupe County. From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Quay had a population of 8,253 people. This is a decrease of 8.95% since the last Census (which gave a population of 9,064 people in 2010). At the time of the 2010 Census, Quay represented 0.44% of the total population of New Mexico.
