The community of Elizabeth is the Seat for Union County.

Union County was founded in 1857 and was created by taking area from Essex County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Union had a population of 556,664 people. This is an increase of 3.76% since the last Census (which gave a population of 536,499 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Union represented 6.1% of the total population of New Jersey.
