While we don't have a date for the founding of Whitney, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1886.

From the  Census Estimates for 2019, Whitney has a population of 72 people<3> (see below for details).

Whitney is 3,410 feet [1,039 m] above sea level.<4> In other words, the elevation of Whitney is about ¾ mile [or ~1 km] above sea level.

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Whitney had an population of 72 people. This is a decrease of 6.49% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 17.24% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Whitney had a population of 77 people. This makes Whitney the county's 3rd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 77 people, the population of Whitney decreased 11.49% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 87 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Whitney was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Whitney post office opened in 1886.

We also found Whitney on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Nebraska (1895).
