Welcome to Thurston ...

So far, we found very little information about Thurston. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Thurston to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Thurston - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Thurston, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Thurston , we believe that it would have been located within present day Douglas County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Thurston, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was on a map dated 1895.

Time Zone: The area where Thurston was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

If Thurston still existed, it would have been in the (402) & (531)<3> area codes.

Communities Also Named Thurston ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two Nebraska communities named Thurston: This one is located in Douglas County and the other is located in Thurston County.

Beyond Nebraska, there are 12 communities that are also named Thurston - they are located in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas and Virginia.

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Thurston, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Nebraska's counties, including Douglas, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>Area code (531) is an overlay for area code (402).
