The Commemorative Quarter for Nebraska

Welcome to Simonds ...

So far, we found very little information about Simonds. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Simonds to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Simonds - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Simonds, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Simonds , we believe that it would have been located within present day Dawson County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Simonds, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was on a map dated 1895.

Time Zone: The area where Simonds was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

If Simonds still existed, it would have been in the (308) area code.

Communities Also Named Simonds ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are 2 communities that are also named Simonds - they are located in Mississippi and Texas.

Adding Simonds to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Simonds was on a map titled Map of Nebraska (from Rand McNally, 1895).

We also found Simonds mentioned on a train schedule titled Union Pacific Railroad Time Tables (September 1924).

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Simonds, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Nebraska's counties, including Dawson, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
