Welcome to Oshkosh ...

So far, we found very little information about Oshkosh. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Oshkosh to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Oshkosh - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Oshkosh, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Oshkosh , we believe that it would have been located within present day Deuel County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Oshkosh, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was on a map dated 1895.

Time Zone: The area where Oshkosh was located is in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time

If Oshkosh still existed, it would have been in the (308) area code.

Communities Also Named Oshkosh ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two Nebraska communities named Oshkosh: This one is located in Deuel County and the other is located in Garden County.

Beyond Nebraska, there are 4 communities that are also named Oshkosh - they are located in Louisiana, North Dakota and Wisconsin.

Adding Oshkosh to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Oshkosh was on a map titled Map of Nebraska (from Rand McNally, 1895).

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Oshkosh, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Nebraska's counties, including Deuel, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
