The Commemorative Quarter for Nebraska

Welcome to Lawn ...

So far, we found very little information about Lawn. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Lawn to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Lawn - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Lawn, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Lawn , we believe that it would have been located within present day Box Butte County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Lawn, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1885.

Time Zone: The area where Lawn was located is in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time

The location where Lawn once stood is in the (308) area code.

Communities Also Named Lawn ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two Nebraska communities named Lawn: This one is located in Box Butte County and the other is located in Douglas County.

Beyond Nebraska, there are 9 communities that are also named Lawn - they are located in Kansas, Newfoundland and Labrador, Pennsylvania, Quebec, South Carolina (2), Texas and West Virginia.

For more information, see our Tidbits & Trivia Page for Lawn.

Adding Lawn to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Lawn was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Lawn post office opened in 1885.

We also found Lawn on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Nebraska (1895).

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Lawn, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Nebraska's counties, including Box Butte, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
