Welcome to Hindrey ...

So far, we found very little information about Hindrey. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Hindrey to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Hindrey - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Hindrey, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Hindrey , we believe that it would have been located within present day Lincoln County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Hindrey, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was on a map dated 1895.

Time Zone: The area where Hindrey was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

The location where Hindrey once stood is in the (308) area code.

Adding Hindrey to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Hindrey was on a map titled Map of Nebraska (from Rand McNally, 1895).

We also found Hindrey mentioned on a train schedule titled Union Pacific Railroad Time Tables (June 1939).

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Hindrey, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Nebraska's counties, including Lincoln, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
