Welcome to Francis ...

So far, we found very little information about Francis. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Francis to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Francis - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Francis, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Francis , we believe that it would have been located within present day Wheeler County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Francis, you might consider that their post office opened in 1883.

Time Zone: The area where Francis was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

Francis would have been located in the (308) area code.

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are 23 communities that are also named Francis - they are located in Alabama (2), Arkansas, California, Florida (2), Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri (2), Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Saskatchewan, Texas, Utah, West Virginia (2) and Wyoming.

We originally found mention of Francis in the GNIS. For more information, see the Referenced GNIS Codes section on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Francis was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Francis post office opened in 1883.

We also found Francis on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Nebraska (1895).
