The Commemorative Quarter for Nebraska

Welcome to Eldon ...

So far, we found very little information about Eldon. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Eldon to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Eldon - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Eldon, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Eldon , we believe that it would have been located within present day Clay County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Eldon, you might get a feel for it by knowing that the earliest mention that we've found (so far) was in a book dated 1895.

Time Zone: The area where Eldon was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

The Area Codes where Eldon was located: 402 & 531<3>

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Eldon, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Nebraska's counties, including Clay, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code. In this case, the 402 code has been Overlayed with the 531 area code. New phone numbers in the Eldon area will be assigned with one of these codes: 402 or 531. As a result, placing a call in the Eldon area will require 10-digit dialing (where you enter both the area code and then the phone number).
