Welcome to Custer ...

So far, we found very little information about Custer. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Custer to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Custer - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Custer, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Custer , we believe that it would have been located within present day Custer County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Custer, you might consider that their post office opened in 1877.

Time Zone: The area where Custer was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

If Custer still existed, it would have been in the (308) area code.

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are 22 communities that are also named Custer - they are located in Arkansas, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma (2), Pennsylvania (2), South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington (2) and Wisconsin.

Adding Custer to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Custer was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Custer post office opened in 1877.

We also found Custer on a map titled Rand McNally Map of Nebraska (1895).
