Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Crete had an population of 6,973 people. This is an increase of 0.19% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 15.68% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Crete had a population of 6,960 people (or 49.01% of the total population of Saline County). This makes Crete the county's most populous community.

The population of Crete represents 0.38% of the total population of Nebraska (which has 1,826,341 people), making it the state's 24th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 6,960 people, the population of Crete increased 15.46% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 6,028 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Crete was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Crete post office opened in 1868.
